Black Impulse Mix Tape 22: Ivona Behalova

The first contributor mix of 2012 comes courtesy of Pettybone guitarist Ivona Behalova. Pettybone have been blowing minds at shows over Europe for the past year and a half. The first time we saw them was when we put them on at one of our Terminal Cheesesteak nights supporting Off! here in London, and they blew us away, bringing a completely fresh approach to DIY punk that we haven’t seen in ages. If you get the chance, see Pettybone as they are currently our favourite band in London hands down. They are touring the UK in February and Europe in April.

Ivona has put together a great mix for us, we hope you enjoy it!

Black Impulse Mix Tape 21: Jimmy Martin

Here’s this Wednesday’s Black Impulse Mix Tape, this time contributed by Jimmy Martin.

Jimmy Martin is the guitarist of the metropolitan psych-rock dreamachine Teeth Of The Sea, who’re currently working on their third album for Rocket Recordings, to be released in 2012. As yet untitled, it looks likely to create dark alchemy by the fusing the mystical forces of Focus, Foetus and Frankie Knuckles.

He’s also written for Terrorizer amongst many others, talked at the ICA, baffled many a DJ audience, won many a pop quiz, attained the dubious honour of being perhaps the only musician to have toured on a bill with both Faster Pussycat and The Dillinger Escape Plan. and wasted hours debating burning issues like which non-Ozzy-or-Dio Sabbath album is the greatest (It’s ‘Born Again’, in case you’re wondering.)

2011 was a monstrous year for Teeth Of The Sea, and they’re rounding it off by headlining the Lexington on December 28th, and also performing REAPER (their soundtrack re-imagining of Neil Marshall’s Doomsday) in the New Year. You can check them out here (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Teeth-Of-The-Sea/115594505139423) and here (http://www.myspace.com/thewrongjaws) (plus here’s some visual aggression: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VBjs-9u158k and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8QZbE8qdE3o&feature=related )

Black Impulse Mix Tape 19: Frank Kimenai

This week’s contributor mix comes from Frank Kimenai, one of the organisers of the Incubate Festival, held each year in the lovely town of Tilburg in the Netherlands.

Each year Frank and his team of cohorts curate a weeks worth of art, film, music and all manner of entertainment across a number of venues in the town. It truly is quite a brilliant experience: as the festival crosses all manner of genres there is none of the one-dimensional feel or tribalism that you would usually associate with European festivals. Want to watch a metal band, then go see a folk act, then see a jazz quartet, and finish up with some dubstep? Then Incubate is probably right up your street. This eclectic and non-homogenous approach seems all the more impressive when you are realise that Incubate has a policy of not booking anyone that has previously played the festival. Which obviously creates a herculanean task of organizing for the Incubate team, but ensures that the festival is always fresh and, perhaps most importantly. gives opportunities to new artists.

Enjoy the mix and go check out Incubate in September!
